
Copacabana Beach
Considered by many the most famous beach in the world, the "Princesinha do Mar" (Sea's Little Princess) is placed at the south side of Rio, being visited by millions every year. It is also common to see many live concerts (Rolling Stones - 1 million people; Rod Stewart - 3,5 million people), the New Year's Eve with an attendance of 3 million people, the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup (invented at this beach by Junior, former player from Flamengo), as well many street festivities during the Carnival as well many other religion activites during the year.The beach strecthes from "Posto 2" (Lifeguard Watchtower Two) to "Posto 6" (Lifeguard Watchtower Six) and limited by the Avenida Atlântica, where you can find dozens of hotels, restaurants, bars, night clubs and residential buildings.
During the 70´s, took place some works on the beach to prevent the water going to the city during the winter, which caused the enlargement of the sand area and the Avenida Atlântica.
